Clean-Trace Hygiene Monitor
Challenge:
Using technology originally developed by biotechnology specialists Biotrace for rapid detection of biological contamination, the challenge was to deploy real-time hygiene monitoring technology directly into food and drink production facilities. Technologically, the key challenge was to develop a light-sealed housing providing suitable light-gathering and protection of the sensitive photometric components
Solution:
- Compact, highly portable hand-held instrument
- Simple loading of Clean-Trace test swabs
- Light sealed housing consistently capturing sensitive levels of bioluminescence
- Rapid results displayed within seconds
- Docking station for download of results
Results:
Clean-Trace has become the leading product in hand-held rapid hygiene monitoring and has extended its application from food production into many sectors including healthcare infection control.
Clean-Trace was the third generation of hygiene monitor developed for Biotrace, prior to their acquisition by 3M. KD’s design contribution, integrating industrial design, ergonomics, prototyping, design for manufacture, integrated electronics and software development, enabled Biotrace to become market leaders in the biotechnology field.
