Challenge

To develop Control Techniques 5^th generation DC drive platform to deliver the worlds most advanced and flexible DC drive system.

Solution

The design solution for the Mentor MP draws upon our core industrial design skills to deliver a sophisticated yet industrial appearance which sets a new standard in the category. Intelligent use of plastic injection moulding design enables all the key interface features to be seamlessly integrated into the enclosure. Our prototyping capabilities were utilised throughout the products` development to realise functioning devices, which supported testing and marketing activities, ahead of mass production.

Results

Control Techniques have achieved great success with Mentor MP since its launch in 2009. The company is experiencing increased sales and has secured several major contracts across the globe. In one example, the drives are being used to optimise the pitch of turbine blades in one of China’s largest wind farm projects. Mentor MP recently won `best new product` in the US `design news` 2010 awards.
