Challenge:

To design a range of electrosurgical instruments for precision gynaecological surgery. Importantly, the devices need to maintain electrical safely in a saline operating environment as well as providing ergonomic comfort and control for the surgeon, all contained within a very small size, suitable for delicate, minimally invasive procedures.

Solution:

Fluid-tight electrode housing assembly with snap-together connection achieving easy, secure and safe electrical connection
Colour coding and automated electronic identification of electrode types further support safety and ease of use
Comfortable precision handgrip with soft rubber moulding providing orientation, cable strain relief and fluid ingress resistance
Small size, providing patient comfort

Results:

One of Gyrus Medical’s first commercialised product solutions, now successfully marketed by Gynecare. This breakthrough technology is used to treat benign intrauterine pathology such as myomas, polyps, adhesions and septa both in outpatient and inpatient settings
