Kinneir Dufort to mentor finalist in the Design Council's latest invention venture
What do an illuminating prayer mat, the future of zips and an unbreakable umbrella have in common?
They are all finalist in the latest Design Council Spark accelerator programme, an initiative designed to support up and coming inventors.
We are honoured to have been selected to join the specialist team of mentors who will support the finalists and will be working closely with them to help advice and support the growth and formation of their projects.
Alongside hours of mentoring and support the eight teams, chosen from over 330 entries, will also take their share of a £150,000 investment fund which will help them to further their innovative work.
Inventions that made the final include a new horse saddle designed to reduce pressure under the saddle and improve the horse’s comfort, a localised network of desktop making tools to help hobbyists create their own mini production lines and an illuminated prayer mat that lights up when facing Makkah.
Our Head of Innovation, Peter Fullagar, advisor for the Design Council said
The standard of work produced by this year’s finalists has been fantastic, with the sheer variety of inventions particularly impressive. We look forward to seeing how these develop over the coming months and years.
